Past Template Discussion (Moved From ToDo Discussion)

Could someone at some point make a template to look like [1], except for monsters. There a lot more statistics than what is shown on [2], and I can put it all up. I just don't have the time right now to make a template. -- Mikau 17:35, 15 March 2011 (CDT)

For the portion where you say bring over quests, and make new template - I'd suggest figuring out a template than bring over quests. Work smarter, not harder. no need to redo something just because 1 piece of data has changed. [edit] I looked through the quests, the pertinent info is there, and it is in a very easy to read format. I really don't see where changing the template would help. other than changing how the information is portrayed... it looks fine, I don't hink that needs to be a high priority

Template is for ease of input and gives us the ability to change ALL of the pages the information is inputted by changing the main template than going back and changing EVERY page. For things that have a lot of information such as monsters, items and quests this is a must for future-proofing.

Well, than I would stand by my original point - template priority before actual quest input.

Stat Box Style

I was playing around with the idea that the wiki templates for stats, tables, monsters etc. could look similar to the game interface. I know that this would be a very low priority, but if you are interested in the idea, I made a mock example template called Template:Interface-Blue. That is what encapsulates this text. I would be happy to modify the template or create another based around a stats box if you were interested. I was thinking that the Template:Monster might be a fun one to try in a sandbox first.

Let me know what you think. And by the way, great job so far on the new wiki!

looks fantastic! Definitely something worth expanding on to add that Nestalgic feeling to the wiki. Also removes to the need to add unnecessary images of text, screen caps, etc. Keep it up GPFontaine!

I actually copied this template and added it to the existing template for monsters/weapons Blue background does not look good because links are blue also and I think white background looks a lot better. We are currently fiddling around with color schems and layouts to see what would be the best. Feel free to check our / edit Template:Monster! Template:Quest! until we get something great.

my html is fail - but I for some reason remember that CSS can be edited to change the color of links - such as keeping them white and just adding an underline. - as an example - still - MUCHO better already :D

The CSS can absolutely be modified to adjust the look of just about everything on the site. From small templates to the entire interface. An @import or direct style changes could be used on the page MediaWiki:Common.css to point to style sheet modifications that would allow the use of classes and or direct CSS modifications. --GPFontaine 10:53, 30 March 2011 (CDT)

I asked Silk for access to the common.css area but he did not really respond to it. IMO the blue background is a bit too harsh for general pages but for title pages like the name of the top of the box ( http://nestalgiawiki.com/index.php?title=Slime where it says "slime" ) but i think our current setup looks pretty good but things can always be improved.

The Current Templates

After some reading, I think I've fixed the conditional if statements so that the table column for a condition statement won't even load unless something is entered for it (if that makes sense :P ). I've only done the Monster and Item Templates so far. Also I've assumed that "{{{1}}}" = "|". Checkout these links if you would like to learn more yourself: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Table & http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Template#Parameter_definition_with_explicit_or_implicit_parameter_name

I've updated all of the templates to clean properly written code. I've also updated them with the latest look that has been taken from the suggestions made here and on the forum. I think it's a good mix of everything; it takes the border from the game along the blue background for the titles, but keeps a lot of white space to make things easy to read and edit. (Thanks everyone who contributed code and suggestions for the latest templates.)

I think these are great final templates, with some small changes needing to be made to the information fields. So far the feedback has been good on the current templates, but don't be afraid to voice your opinions here.
